The Blessing song lyrics are based on the Aaronic blessing recorded in Numbers 6:24-26 when the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites” (v.22).
This song was co-authored by Christian worship artists Kari Jobe-Carnes, Cody Carnes, Steven Furtick, and Chris Brown. It is said that this song was born out of a late-night writing session in February 2020. The team had been writing for hours and were finishing up when Pastor Furtick started humming and going around the room. Instead of going home, they stayed until midnight to develop the song’s idea, which they described as “pouring out effortlessly" as they felt "the presence of God fill the room.” They made a video, posted it on their church worship channel, and the rest is history.
When we first heard this song, that was the exact emotion, feeling, and overall sense we experienced. His Spirit filled the room. Darren heard this song for the first time while attending a special event; the worship leader mentioned that this song was on her song list to perform that day. As soon as he heard it, he experienced indescribable joy and peace. For Rose, listening to the song brought the comfortable glow and warmth of fire all over her body. This song was an instant “touch deep in the heart” for both of us.
We have since used this song during worship services in UME Weekend Experiences. We worship and speak these words over the encountered couples, hoping they go forth living lives with the blessing of God over their transformed and strengthened marriages, their families, friends, and communities.
The Lord bless you and keep you…
He does not only bless you but also keeps you. This represents God’s divine protection and provision. It means more than just giving good things; it is God’s favor and approval, His guardianship, and His provision (physical, emotional, and spiritual). It is a life that flourishes under His care, preserving us from harm and loss and watching over us carefully because we are precious to Him.
A blessing that is about wholeness and well-being, not just material success. It’s God actively working for our good, the good of our marriage; anything and everything that has to do with us.
Make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you…
When God’s face “shines” on someone, He looks on them with kindness and delights in them. He shows grace (undeserved, unmerited, unearned favor). He is Gracious. His presence brings light, peace, guidance, and hope.
The Lord turn His face toward you:
It is more than protection; we move into an intimate relationship with Him. It is not just that God guards us, but that He turns toward us with warmth and grace. It is an outpouring of God’s love, grace, and His divine favor upon us.
And give you peace:
Peace as promised. A peace that transcends all understanding of our minds and hearts in Christ Jesus.
May His favor be upon you:
May His favor be with you through generations (your children and your children’s children) as you walk through life and the breadth and depth of His presence, always.
We pray this worship song blesses you abundantly with love, joy and peace. We must always remember God is ALWAYS for us, so who or what can be against us? Psalm 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” God is walking alongside us in the peaks and valleys of life. This song reminds us of that.
For HE IS FOR YOU! Amen and Amen!
