In Every Season, He is Worthy

This month, we invite you and your spouse to listen, reflect, and apply the truths found in Build My Life by Pat Barrett — a powerful worship song directed toward God's holiness and an invitation to practice vertical worship together.
He Is Worthy
In the middle of life's uncertainty — the busy seasons, the hard conversations, the moments when marriage feels more like work than wonder — the lyrics of Build My Life call us back to what is always true: God is worthy.
Worthy of every song we could ever sing Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
When couples worship together, something shifts. The weight of unresolved tension, unmet expectations, and daily stress gets placed where it belongs — at the feet of a God who is worthy of it all. As you reflect on these words together, ask yourselves: are we making space in our marriage to worship the One who is worthy of everything?
His Name Above All Names
The song then turns our attention to Jesus:
Jesus, the Name above every other name Jesus, the only One who could ever save
In marriage, it can be tempting to place our spouse in a role only God can fill — to look to them as our ultimate source of security, validation, or happiness. But Jesus alone holds that place. When we both surrender to Him as Lord, we free each other from an impossible standard and love one another from a place of wholeness rather than need.
Open Our Eyes
Perhaps the most tender moment in the song is this prayer:
Holy, there is no one like You There is none beside You Open up my eyes in wonder And show me who You are And fill me with Your heart And lead me in Your love to those around me
This is vertical worship flowing outward — and your spouse is one of the closest neighbors you have. When we ask God to fill us with His heart and lead us in His love, that love should be most visible in our homes, in the quiet moments, in the way we speak to and serve our partner. A marriage rooted in wonder for God naturally produces more grace, more patience, and more genuine love between spouses.
A Firm Foundation
The heart of the song is a declaration of trust:
And I will build my life upon Your love It is a firm foundation And I will put my trust in You alone And I will not be shaken
These words echo the parable Jesus told in Matthew 7:24–27 — the wise man who built his house on the rock. When the rain came, when the winds blew and the storms rose, the house stood firm. Why? Because of what it was built on.
A marriage built on God's love is the same. Every couple will face storms — financial pressure, grief, conflict, seasons of distance. But a marriage with Christ at the center has a foundation that the storms cannot destroy. The question is not if the rain will come, but what your marriage is standing on when it does.
Reflect & Apply — For Couples
As you listen to Build My Life together this month, discuss these questions together:
What are we building our marriage on? Are there areas where we've placed our trust in each other instead of in God?
In what ways can we create more space for worship — individually and together — to keep our eyes fixed on what is worthy?
How can we better lead each other in love, as the song says, "to those around us" — our children, our community, our church?
When the storms have come in our marriage, what has held us together? How can we strengthen that foundation?
Trust in the Lord together — He is worthy of every breath, every song, and every season of your marriage. Build on Him, and you will not be shaken.
